Is PRP The Fountain of Youth?

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a revolutionary treatment that is being used in cosmetic medicine to rejuvenate and regenerate ageing skin. We are talking about lymphatic, circulatory, and epithelial rejuvenation by using a persons own Plasma. PRP has been pioneered for facial rejuvenation and regeneration by biological stimulation. The question has been asked, ‘Is PRP The Fountain of Youth?’ Well let’s discuss this…

We are essentially ‘Turning Back the Clock on the Ageing Process’.

“I really love the way PRP can change not only the exterior, but seems to have the ability to increase confidence in the people that I treat. They often tell me that their friends and family members notice they seem to have a more youthful glow. “

So the question is, what is Platelet Rich Plasma?

PRP is a revolutionary cosmetic treatment. When injected, Plasma releases powerful growth factors and natural stem cells that are specifically designed to stimulate regeneration, and restructure skin tissue, creating both collagen and elastin. Growth factors and stem cells also increase cellular turnover, elastin, and collagen production, which is the foundation of youthful, glowing and radiant skin.

The Power of Growth Factors

The growth factors released after PRP treatments are responsible for:

  • Stimulating collagen and elastin formation
  • Forming new blood vessels
  • Reorganising cells and skin tissue

These effects result in an improved skin tone, colour and texture, as well as smoothed lines and a softened appearance of wrinkles. In addition to these benefits, the injected area will also experience an increase in hydration, helping to keep skin soft, healthy and vibrant. These benefits are a direct result of growth factors, which control the body’s wound healing mechanism. When growth factors are stimulated by a PRP treatment, collagen production is boosted. This helps to improve the appearance of age related skin damage, including wrinkles, scarring and fine lines.

“Many of my patients are attracted to PRP because they are seeking a more ‘natural’ and longer lasting alternative to cosmetic injectables.”

The Treatment Process

Blood is taken, not much more than you would have taken when you go for blood tests.  It’s then placed into a sterile and specifically designed vial, which is inserted into a specialised centrifuge that prepares the blood for PRP therapy. A patented separator gel within the tube isolates the platelets and plasma from red blood cells as the vial spins, separating the blood into its three main cell types: red blood cells, Plasma, and platelets.

The plasma (PRP) is then re-injected into the skin in the areas needing rejuvenation. For increased results the plasma can then be further infused into the skin with skin needling. This immediately activates growth factors and stem cells, triggering rejuvenation that will result in renewed, youthful and vibrant skin. While a series of three PRP injection treatments are generally recommended to obtain optimal results, visible improvements can be seen after just one treatment.

What anti-ageing concerns can PRP Treat? Is it truly the Fountain of Youth?

PRP can treat a variety of anti-ageing concerns:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Improved skin elasticity
  • Reduced pigmentation
  • Uneven or dull skin tone
  • Improved hydration and dry skin
  • Fine, thin crepe skin around the eyes
  • Fine, thin crepe skin on the neck and back of hands
  • Tightens and lifts skin
  • Scar improvement
  • Acne scarring
  • Stretch marks
  • Surgical/trauma Scars
  • It truly can start the youthful ageing process

How do I know if PRP is the correct Treatment for me?

The healthier you are the better the results, as the quality of your plasma will depend on the quality of your diet, how much water you drink daily, and any health concerns. Smokers results are less due to the increased ageing effects of smoking and the free radical damage smoking creates.

How long do the Results Last?

PRP provides natural and long-lasting results. Each treatment delivers an accumulative effect, with visible changes evident within one to three months. The healing and regenerative effects continue for over twelve months after just one treatment. The effects are permanent, although still subject to the normal ageing process.
