Downturned mouth corners are quite common.
As happy and wonderful as you may feel inside, your face might just be saying something else. Downturned mouth corners make you appear sad, upset and sometimes even angry! The downturned corners appear when the muscles that keep the corners of the mouth turned down during normal facial movement, fail to relax afterwards and remain tense. There are different causes for a downturned mouth.
We have many muscles in our faces. One set of muscles in the jaw is called the depressor anguli oris. These muscles run from the corners of the lips down to the chin and are responsible for the corners of the mouth turning down when frowning.
When overused, the repetitive action of frowning can cause downturned mouth corners.
Another reason for downturned mouth corners is the natural ageing process of your skin. As we get older, our elastin and collagen production become less efficient, which creates ageing skin. Other things that can age your skin are smoking, excessive drinking, an inconsistent sleep schedule and not using SPF sun cream when going outside.
