What to expect after your dermal filler treatment:

After your treatment, you may experience side effects, such as welling, redness, pain, bruising, headache, tenderness, lump formation, itching at the injection site. Most of the time these symptoms are mild in severity and last less than 7 days in nasolabial folds and less than 14-18 days ion the lips. Swelling may be more likely in patients over 35 years.

What to do after your dermal filler treatment:

• Do not wear makeup for 12 hours following injection
• Patience is required as swelling will be present for 24-48 hours, it will go down. If you prefer the size when it was swollen, we can put more product in on your two-week check-up, please call and advise us.
• You will have to restrict activity in the first few hours after your treatment. Swelling can be present for 24-48 hours; it will go down. Use icepacks on the treated area to reduce swelling if required, 10 mins on and 10 mins off. The longer you ice the quicker the swelling resides.
• Avoid touching your lips for at least two hours to allow injection sites to heal over, wash your hands before touching injected area to avoid introducing external infection.
• If you have a history of cold sores, it is a good idea to take a preventative remedy after your treatment.
• Avoid exposure to prolonged sunlight, rigorous exercise, saunas, hot baths and excessive amounts of alcohol for 24-48 hours as this will increase the swelling and possibility of bruising.
• If lips have been injected avoid SMOKING, kissing or whitling i.e. avoid pursing lips.
• Keep the area free of oil based products, heavy cosmetics and thick moisturizers for at least 4 hours.
• Hyaluronic Acid is like a sponge to water, so the more water you drink the longer your product will last. Nutritionists tell us to maintain a healthy fluid balance and cleanse the body internally; we need 40mls of water per kilo of body weight, so do the math!

It is essential that you attend your review appointment in 2 to 4 weeks time so that we can compare with your before photo .A three month check-up is also required to check your progress. For any queries, please call your injector.
