Can Fine Lines turn into Wrinkles?

This is a question I am most frequently asked, and as a Cosmetic Injector it is my job to know the difference and to be able to help you with softening the appearance of both.  Really, wrinkles vs. fine lines doesn’t totally matter as long as you take consistent, thoughtful care of your skin and have a long term treatment plan in place. It is still interesting to know the difference so let’s look at the facts.

Age Amazingly, Wrinkles, Fine Lines

Speaking as a professional Tweakment expert I can give you the official difference, a fine line is no more than 2 millimetres deep, a wrinkle is deeper than 2 millimetres. Now I would hope that you are not going to use a ruler to measure any lines or wrinkles you may have… Instead consider your age, if you are under 40 than chances are unless you have spent the majority of your life outdoors without sun protection, then they are probably fine lines. If you are older than 40, most likely you will have wrinkles.

Something that may interest you is that fine lines and wrinkles are not always caused by the same things. Fine Lines are a result of things such as sun damage and are mostly due to collagen breakdown as well as other components of premature ageing. Wrinkles are more a result of repetitive muscle movement such as squinting, laughing and scowling. While the causes of fine lines and wrinkles may be different, your strategies for minimizing the appearance of them are relatively the same.

The amount of collagen in your skin plays a huge role in its overall appearance, research shows that collagen supplements can help increase skin elasticity, hydration, and the density of collagen within skin.

Proven Ways to Prevent Wrinkles

  1. Using a daily 50+ Skincare, it’s a well-known fact that exposure to the sun can damage your skin, leading to premature aging and wrinkles.
  2. Collagen Supplement, the more you can strengthen and protect your skin’s collagen, the younger and healthier your skin will look. Check out my go to Collagen Supplement.
  3.  Use a retinoid, sometimes referred to as retinol, retinoids have the ability to increase collagen production, which helps plumps up the skin.
  4. Stay Hydrated, besides vital functions like flushing toxins from your body, aiding with digestion, and regulating your body temperature, water can also help keep your skin healthy and hydrated from the inside.
  5. Don’t Smoke.
  6. Cellular turnover also plays a role in keeping your skin soft, plump and wrinkle free, so regularly using a skincare with an exfoliating product that includes something like AHA’s, which increase cellular turnover, can be beneficial as well.
