How tattoo removal works?

Our advanced laser delivers concentrated light that breaks down tattoo ink into microscopic particles – without harming the surrounding skin. Over time, your body naturally flushes out these fragments through the lymphatic system.

But it doesn’t stop there.

Each session also stimulates collagen production and skin renewal, helping to regenerate and restore your skin’s natural tone and texture.

The result?

Progressively fading ink, smoother skin, and a clearer, more even complexion with every visit.

The Treatment Process

The Consultation

We offer complimentary, no pressure consultations to walk you through the process, assess your tattoo and skin, and chat about your goals. If you’re ready to go ahead, we can often do your first treatment on the same day.

Pre Treatment

Keep your tattoo out of the sun and wear SPF 50+ for at least four weeks before treatment. If you smoke, consider cutting back to support healing. On the day, wear loose clothes and shave the area if needed.

The Treatment

Your session will take around 15–20 minutes, depending on the size of the tattoo. We use a cooling system for comfort, and most people experience only mild redness or swelling, like a light sunburn.

Post Consultation

Apply Bepanthen twice daily, avoid sun exposure, and skip heat or heavy moisture for 48–72 hours. No picking, scratching or shaving the area while healing – and we’re always here if you need support.

Laser Tattoo Removal FAQs

Am I suitable for Laser Tattoo Removal?

Unfortunately, laser tattoo removal may not be suitable if you:

  • Are pregnant
  • Are currently using retinoids or Isotretinoin (e.g. Roaccutane, Accutane), must be discontinued for at least 6 months prior
  • Have a history of severe allergic reactions to tattoo ink
  • Are taking anticoagulant medication
  • Have heavily tanned or bronzed skin
  • Are in poor general health
  • Have damaged skin in the treatment area (e.g. burns, abrasions)
  • Have an autoimmune condition
  • Have a blood clotting or coagulation disorder

A full consultation will help determine your individual suitability.

Is the treatment painful?

Tattoo removal can be a little uncomfortable, but pain levels vary from person to person – many say it feels like a rubber band snapping on the skin. At Age Amazingly, we do everything we can to make the process more comfortable, using the Zimmer cooling system to deliver a constant stream of air at -40°C before, during, and after treatment. This advanced cooling method helps minimise pain and protect the skin without interrupting the laser process. If you’d like extra relief, anaesthetic creams are also available for purchase during your consultation. Our priority is keeping you as comfortable as possible every step of the way.

Will my skin react to this treatment?

During treatment, it’s normal for the tattoo to develop a temporary white frosting – this means the laser is effectively breaking down the pigment. The whitening fades within a few hours, and the treated area may appear red with minor pinpoint bleeding, often feeling like a mild sunburn. In the days that follow, you might notice some blistering, then a light scab or crust forming. It’s important not to pick or disturb this to prevent scarring. Redness can linger for a few days up to a couple of weeks as your skin heals – these reactions are all part of the natural recovery process.

Why does my tattoo disappear and then reappear after treatment?

We get it – laser tattoo removal can seem a bit puzzling, especially when your tattoo appears to “disappear” during treatment, only to reappear shortly after! What you’re seeing is called frosting, a totally normal and harmless reaction. When the laser targets the ink, it rapidly heats the pigment, creating a small release of gas from the skin. This reaction causes the tattoo to turn white temporarily – giving the illusion that it’s vanished.

Frosting usually fades within 15–30 minutes and is a good sign that the laser has effectively targeted the ink. As your sessions progress and the ink breaks down, you’ll see less frosting each time – because there’s less ink left to treat. It’s all part of the process and means your skin is on its way to a clearer canvas!

How long does it take to remove a tattoo?

At Age Amazingly, we value authenticity and believe in honest, realistic conversations with our clients. We’ll always give you a clear understanding of what to expect, including how many sessions you may need. The number of treatments depends on your tattoo’s size, colour, and depth – most require 5–10 sessions for full removal, while lightening for a cover-up typically needs fewer.

If your tattoo has been previously treated with older laser technology, removal may take a little longer. Outdated machines can sometimes cause pigment to bind deeper in the skin, creating a “glue-like” effect that’s tougher to break down – but we’ll guide you through every step.

Do you treat cosmetic tattoos?

Yes, cosmetic tattoo removal is a more delicate and complex process compared to standard tattoo removal. Most clients see results within 2–6 sessions, but this can vary depending on the type of ink, your skin, and how old the tattoo is. During your initial consultation, we’ll chat through your goals, assess the area, and give you a clear idea of what to expect during and after treatment.

Is there anything I need to do after my treatment?

Yes, we have put together a Laser Tattoo Removal Post-Care document for all the information you will need and proper after care instructions. Follow this link here.
