Dermal Fillers

  • What are Dermal Fillers?

    Dermal fillers are fast and effective treatments, to soften lines and creases, temporarily restoring a smooth, improved and more youthful appearance. They can be used on both men and women, from early twenties upwards. At Face Today we use a wide range of dermal fillers on the market today, preferring each one for specific areas and desired results. We offer both non-permanent and permanent fillers (not for everyone).

  • How do they work?

    Dermal fillers are used to volumise various areas on the face, restructure jawlines, tighten necks, straighten noses, enhance lips, cheeks and chin. As we age, we lose facial fat as well as collagen and elastin and this can lead to drooping of the skin causing "wrinkles" and "folds".
    Dermal filler injections are quick and simple procedures that provide instant results with minimal discomfort and downtime. These quick lunch time procedures are high in demand for those who desire instant, wow results.

  • How long will results last?

    Dermal fillers will last from 6-18 months in most cases, depending on what kind of filler is used and where they are placed. In some cases they may last longer.

  • Where can they be used?

    Nasolabial Folds, Lip Enhancement, Cheeks and Chin Enhancement, Glabella (between the eyes), Nose Correction, Acne Scarring, Jawline, Temples, Orbital Rims, Brow Lift, Earlobes, Back of Hands, Feet (balls), Neck.

    Before treatment commences, numbing cream or a dental block will used to make the treatment more comfortable. Ice may be used in conjunction with these to minimise bruising and swelling. Small needles (slightly bigger than an acupuncture needle) will then be used to inject the selected product into the second layer or skin, providing instant volume and lift. The treatment time can vary from 15 to 45 minutes in most cases, depending on the treatment plan and product selection. Once the treatment has finished the area will be massaged by hand to help mould the product into the desired shape. Again, ice will be used to reduce bruising and swelling. After treatment applying make-up is possible however, we recommend avoiding heavy exercise for 48 hours post procedure.

  • Can I resume normal activities after treatment?

    1. Patience is required as swelling will be present for 24 to 48 hours, it will go down. If you prefer the size when it was swollen, we can put more product in on your two week check-up, please call and advise us. Use icepacks on the treated area to reduce swelling if required, 10 mins on and 10 mins off. The longer you ice the quicker the swelling resides.
    2. Avoid exposure to prolonged sunlight, rigorous exercise, saunas, hot baths and excessive amounts of alcohol for 24 - 48 hours as this will increase the swelling and the possibility of bruising.
    3. If lips have been injected avoid SMOKING, kissing or whistling i.e. avoid pursing lips.
    4. Keep the area free of oil based products, heavy cosmetics and thick moisturizers for at least 4 hours.
    5. The more water you drink the longer your product will last. Nutritionists tell us to maintain a healthy fluid balance and cleanse the body internally; we need 40mls of water per kilo of body weight, so do the math!

  • Are there any side effects / complications?

    • Temporary redness or swelling may occur, as with any intra-dermal injection. Such reactions settle spontaneously.
    • Localised tenderness.
    • Temporary lumpiness or discolored patches may occur.
    • Bruising, this may take up to two weeks to resolve depending on the individual, however, makeup can be applied.
